7 seasons of OCM have passed since the FFL team rode in the peloton. However their former manager has been keeping an eye on the OCM circuit in recent weeks and has been building a team for the past 4 days, following confirmation from OCM founder, Team Zyte, that FFL would be welcomed back.
The teams re-launch is of great interest to teams in all divisions, as the high levels of investment following a very successful OCM career that included World Championship victory, the first (and second) 55Av rider and a several season spell continuously in the Top 5, including periods ranked #1 mean that a quick ascent through the rankings is a possibility, although something played down by the FFL manager
The team has had a complete overhaul, with all old riders sold and a team of 9 youthful, local Welsh lads added to the roster last Thursday. Since then a number of aging riders have been acquired to add some experience and strength to the squad. 1.5 million has been spent on the rebuilding of the team including some upgrades to the equipment, something evident when the team rolled out for their first press conference on 5* climbing and flat road frames, with the best groupsets, handlebars and wheels that the OCM has to offer and kitted out in the top of the range aerodynamic and comfortable clothing.
When asked if the lavish spending was a little excessive for the lowest leagues FFL team bosses responded by saying they had bigger ambitions, although it will take some time to build the team that they want. We have to wait a month now before replacing any of the guys and finding the right riders and persuading others to sell is always tough. We still have fairly deep pockets and have invested in the best technology for attracting as many youth talents as possible.
There is no rush to reach the top; we aren’t racing to reach the top division and our initial focus is about building the team that we want. We may race sparingly over the first month or two, but expect to see the team a mid-division squad in the not too distant future and holding a roster that starts to look stronger and stronger over the coming months.
FFL are due to start racing on Wednesday with all 18 of their riders competing in 3 races across the division 10 fixtures
